Hand-turned wooden Nostepinne (yarn ball-winder), made from walnut, and finished with a light coat of beeswax. These are medieval tools for creating center-pull balls of yarn, typically in a flat "cake" form, but also as round balls.
The Nostepinnes are between 10.5 and 12 inches in length overall, and the "tip" of the tapered end is approximately 3/8" in diameter.
Due to the wood being a natural material, variations in grain pattern and color will occur. Occasionally, there will be defects in the wood (bark inclusions, small pockets, etc.); I strive to make sure that these will not affect the functioning of the Nostepinne. Because they are hand-turned, slight variations in dimension and form will occur.
The Nostepinnes have been sanded smooth, and finished with a light coat of beeswax rubbed into the wood.
If you desire something in particular (special notches, or no "bead" between the handle and the taper), or would like a different finish or size, don't hesitate to PM me.
I ship these USPS First Class Package, with tracking.

The Nostepinne is beautifully turned. The handle part is lovely to hold even for the time it takes to wind several balls. It’s taking me a minute to get the hang of it but it’s great.

Very well-turned piece. This would make an excellent gift for a crocheter or knitter. Very smooth.
